Welcome

to the home of the leading program for basketball player development in Anchorage, Alaska.

The AKademy Rising is for 6th - 8th grade basketball players pursuing stronger roles on their school or comp teams. It is a multi-week, indepth training experience designed to improve a player’s confidence, athleticism, fundamental skills & understanding of the game.

NOW - MARCH 27TH / MAY 5 - 24

The AKademy Up & Coming is for 9th & 10th grade basketball players who played or are pursuing a C-Team or JV Spot on their high school team, or for advanced, serious 7th & 8th grade players. It is a multi-week, in depth training experienced designed to improve a player’s confidence, athleticism, fundamental skills & understanding of the game.

APRIL 7 - MAY 24

The AKademy Next Level is for High School players who played or swung varsity and college players in their post or off-season. This is a highly competitive skill focused intensive designed to help players level up their game while loving the process.

ALYSA HORN, CSCS

Founder of Make Yourself

Coach Horn has been helping Alaskan players unlock their potential for the past 7 years and created the AKademy as a way for athletes of every level to find a community of like-minded athletes striving to sweat, learn, grow, and get better together.

Born and raised in Kodiak, Alaska, Coach Horn is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist with a Bachelor's of Science in Health, four years collegiate coaching experience, and is a former professional (Germany, Australia) and collegiate (University of Alaska Anchorage) basketball player. She won multiple championships in her career both collegiately as a player and coach, and professionally. Known for her toughness, competitiveness and selflessness, these qualities are at the forefront of her message to the athletes she works with today.

Esther Mendes

Strength & Conditioning Coach

Originally from Brazil, coach Esther grew up playing soccer which led her to play in high school and college.

Being raised around sports and fitness influenced her decision to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Education from the Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto, where she had her first contact with CrossFit.

Now as a Level 2 trainer and CrossFit Gymnastics Coach, she spends most of her time helping people with their fitness journeys in Alaska.

This AKademy is 35 total workouts designed to build a player’s love and understanding of the game of basketball, and in taking ownership of becoming a better athlete, teammate, and leader.

The AKademy Next Level: basketball player development for high school varsity level hoopers

LET’S GET AFTER IT!

These workouts are designed to be able to be done in conjunction with spring sports. It is a blended workout with the Up & Coming group, and we will be spending significant time perfecting skills and less time on competitive reps (that will come in the summer).

Like any professional service (haircut, Netflix, drive thru, etc.), hoops training does cost money. If it’s not currently in your, or your family’s, budget to afford training, the Sweat Equity Program can help.

Trade an hour of work for Make Yourself for an hour of training for yourself.

NOW - MARCH 27TH

This AKademy is 37 total training sessions culminating in 42 hours (21 hours on the court, 20 hours in the weight room). Punchcards are available if not wanting to commit to all 37 sessions, or if signing up mid-session.

This AKademy is 3 weeks, and 15 total workouts. Let’s end the school year strong and get after it!
